Joshua Stevens and William Henry Miller were working on con tract for Samuel Colt in 1848 while designing a revolver of their own. After an altercation with Colt in July, 1848, they went to work for Edwin Wesson of Hartford.

The revolvers made are marked on the topstrap over the cylinder:
LEAVITT'S MANUFACTURED BY PATENT WESSON, STEVENS & MILLER HARTFORD, CT.

Only one specimen is known that is so marked. It is a .40 caliber, six shot dragoon revolver with wooden grip and a brass grip cap. The grip cap is flat instead of the normal military style.
